Carminatives

Carminative: reduces and prevents gas

Carminatives stimulate proper digestion by regulating gut contractions (peristalsis) as they are rich in volatile oils, which are mildly irritating to the gastric mucosa, and thus, peristalsis and gastric emptying are increased. This results in the reduction of cramping and abdominal pain and in the expulsion of gas from the digestive system, which soothes and settles the gut walls. Note that carminatives work similarly to antispasmodics, but they are not necessarily muscle relaxants.
